A "Roll Off Driver" operates a specialized heavy-duty truck to transport and dispose of waste or recyclable materials using large, open-top containers (roll-off bins) by loading, hauling, and unloading them at various customer locations like construction sites, commercial properties, and landfills, requiring physical labor to connect the containers to the truck hoist, while adhering to safety and environmental regulations and performing pre-trip inspections on the vehicle; typically requiring a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and the ability to navigate tight spaces and challenging terrains. 
Key responsibilities of a Roll Off Driver:

  • Operating the truck:

Safely driving a roll-off truck to designated customer locations, maneuvering in tight spaces, and navigating different road conditions. 

  • Loading and unloading containers:

Physically attaching and detaching roll-off containers to the truck using hydraulic lift mechanisms, ensuring proper securing of containers during transport. 

  • Route management:

Following assigned routes, managing pick-up and drop-off schedules, and communicating with dispatch regarding any issues. 

  • Pre-trip and post-trip inspections:

Performing thorough vehicle checks before and after each shift to ensure safety and proper functionality of the truck and loading equipment. 

  • Customer service:

Interacting with customers at pick-up and drop-off points, addressing any concerns regarding container placement and waste disposal. 

  • Compliance with regulations:

Adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations regarding waste handling and driving safety. 

  • Maintaining records:

Completing necessary paperwork including daily logs, delivery receipts, and incident reports. 

Required qualifications:

  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements
  • Experience operating heavy-duty trucks
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor including lifting, climbing, and pushing heavy containers
  • Strong understanding of traffic laws and safety procedures
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions
  • Good communication skills to interact with customers and dispatch

Pay & Benefits

  • Non CDL positions start at $13-$16/hr
  • CDL A or B positions start at $17-$22/hr
  • We offer a minimum of 50 hours a week and up from there
  • 1 week of PTO after 1 year, 2 weeks of PTO after 3 years
  • We provide company Health insurance and match our employees by paying half of the cost of their insurance after 1 year of employment
  • $10,000 burial policy on any employee hired to benefit their family
